Recent developments in quantum annealing

چکیده
We review and comment on some of the recent developments in quantum annealing. In particular, we will comment on recent findings that quantum annealers may be best suited for finding a class of approximate solutions and on Google’s announcement of quantum annealers outperforming classical annealers by significant margins. This is not meant to be a comprehensive review and we apologize in advance to all authors whose relevant papers we do not mention.

Quantum Annealing and Computation: A Brief Documentary Note∗
Major breakthrough in quantum computation has recently been achieved using quantum annealing to develop analog quantum computers instead of gate based computers. After a short introduction to quantum computation, we retrace very briefly the history of these developments and discuss the Indian researches in this connection and provide some interesting documents (in the Figs.) obtained from a cho...
متن کاملQuantum annealing: An introduction and new developments
Quantum annealing is a generic algorithm using quantum-mechanical fluctuations to search for the solution of an optimization problem. The present paper first reviews the fundamentals of quantum annealing and then reports on preliminary results for an alternative method. The review part includes the relationship of quantum annealing with classical simulated annealing. We next propose a novel qua...
متن کاملAlgorithm engineering for a quantum annealing platform
Recent advances bring within reach the viability of solving combinatorial problems using a quantum annealing algorithm implemented on a purpose-built platform that exploits quantum properties. However, the question of how to tune the algorithm for most effective use in this framework is not well understood. In this paper we describe some operational parameters that drive performance, discuss ap...
متن کاملQuantum Annealing and Analog Quantum Computation
We review here the recent success in quantum annealing, i.e., optimization of the cost or energy functions of complex systems utilizing quantum fluctuations. The concept is introduced in successive steps through the studies of mapping of such computationally hard problems to the classical spin glass problems. The quantum spin glass problems arise with the introduction of quantum fluctuations, a...
متن کاملQuantum simulation of transverse Ising models with Rydberg atoms
Quantum Isingmodels are canonicalmodels for the study of quantumphase transitions (Sachdev 1999QuantumPhase Transitions (Cambridge: CambridgeUniversity Press)) and are the underlying concept formany analogue quantumcomputing and quantum annealing ideas (Tanaka et al Quantum SpinGlasses, Annealing andComputation (Cambridge: CambridgeUniversity Press)). Here we focus on the implementation offinit...
